The Healthcare Breakdown No. 66 - A Personal Note from Preston
Brought to you by Charles Darwin
What we’re breaking down: This personal, heartfelt, tear jerking (probably not really though) letter from yours truly… me, it’s me. The letter is from me.
Why it matters: Because we’re trying to make healthcare better dang it!
Read time: The time it takes to refill one last mimosa (3 minutes for real though)
When I first started The Healthcare Breakdown, it wasn’t actually The Healthcare Breakdown at all.
It was a newsletter I started called the unBA. The goal of that newsletter was similar to this. I wanted clinicians to know more about the mechanics of the business of healthcare, so that they, could take it back.
Clinicians owning practices and being independent, clinicians running startups, and clinicians in non-clinical leadership.
But since you are reading this and not that, the original newsletter petered out after 6 issues.
Some years later, The Healthcare Breakdown was born. Brought to you by way of my evolution and experiences in healthcare.
And I am honored that you have joined me in reading the irreverent, slightly derisive, occasionally apoplectic, never grammatically correct, (very) periodical.
However, as with all good things, this too must come to an end (for now).
As the years have gone on, I have searched for ways to make an impact in healthcare. My estimation is that my time and energy is best served helping doctors deliver incredible care and be financially successful, while maintaining control.
To that end, you may know that I have been spending most of my time… ok, all of my time building Forward Slash / Health.
The goal of which is in line with all the ramblings, fist wagging, and void shouting of this reality rag. We exist to put the power back in the hands of clinicians to run healthcare.
It is the next evolution and an actualization of what this newsletter has been all about.
Since you have very graciously lent me part of your Sunday mornings, mimosa clutched and Taylor blaring, I wanted to be transparent and share this update with you this fine Sunday.
As this set of musings winds down, I will continue to write the Forward Slash / Health weekly newsletter, which you can find back there at that link. This one too.
There, I write about the finance across the spectrum from solo practice to bustling ASCs and community hospitals.
I also wanted share what I have been working towards and why these missives have not been hitting your inbox regularly.
First, we are building a product to help practices and hospitals run with more financial clarity. It’s called the Forward Slash /CFO (I know, I am so good at naming things).
It is a platform that will unify your financial views and give you the ability to implement financial and managerial accounting in your practice. Whether you are a solo doc or a large multispecialty, multistate group.
It will allow you to build budgets, track variances, manage expenses, view CPT level profitability, forecast cash, and more. All without spending 7 hours every week pulling together 19 different reports and still not getting it quite right.
You can learn more about it here: Forward Slash /CFO.
Second, we remain committed to helping doctors launch practices. It’s been such a privilege to help launch practices across multiple sates and specialties.
Lastly, we are a full revenue cycle outfit. We have a crack shot team and love nothing more (as you might surmise) than to wrestle money from insurers that they already owe you.
As you can see we are deep in the finances, which has led naturally to our building of the Forward Slash /CFO.
I can’t wait to bring this product to practices and watch it transform financial insights and management, putting more power back in the hands of those closest to patients.
If you have any questions about that product launch, which is happening January 7th, what else we get up to at Forward Slash / Health, or anything else, just reply.
I read it all!
So for now, thank you for reading The Healthcare Breakdown.
We may cross paths again through this forum, but for now…
See you out there!

Great work.
See ya out there. Let’s stay connected.
